Malaysia legislates for a green economy

RainWater Harvesting Ltd. and Aura-Lite
sign distribution and cooperation agreement

Agreement signed for cooperation Rainwater Harvesting Ltd in Malaysia

L-R: Mr. Oliver Harrison, Mr. John Pearson, Ms. Vivien Life, His Excellency Mr. Simon Featherstone (British High Commissioner in Malaysia), Mr. Marcus Bicknell (Partner, Technical & Commercial of RainWater Harvesting Ltd in the UK), Mohd Jamil Abdul Wahab (Managing Director of Aura-Lite), Ms. Rachel Koh (Business Development Director, Aura-Lite) and Mr. Kelvin Lau (Project Director, Aura-Lite).

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Najib, opened the first International Green Tech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia today with statements of intent to budget and legislate for incentives for eco-friendly and sustainable features in homes and buildings. The Malaysian government’s commitment to reduction in greenhouse gases by 40% by 2020, for example, goes deeper than those of the Copenhagen summit and their new budget provides for tax incentives and for subsidies to home owners and in research into green technologies.

At the same time Aura-Lite (M) SdnBhd, a major distributor of green products for the sustainable home, and U.K.-based manufacturer of innovative eco-products RainWater Harvesting Ltd signed a long term distribution and cooperation agreement. Under this agreement Aura-Lite will distribute rainwater harvesting equipment, across ten countries in the ASEAN area, from the British company and will cooperate in the development of new products and services. Aura-Lite launched at the IGEM show a range of products from RainWaterHarvesting.co.uk including underground tanks, filters, pumps and the award-winning and patented rain management systems the Rain Director® and the Solar Rain Director® which reduce the mains electricity used in pumping the rainwater round the house.

The contract between the companies was signed at a ceremony attended by the British High Commissioner in Malaysia, His Excellency Mr Simon Featherstone, accompanied by Mr Oliver Harrison, the High Commission’s commercial officer for Sustainable Products and Water Saving, Ms Vivien Life,  responsible for climate change issues at the Foreign & Colonial Office in London and Mr John Pearson, expert in climate change issues for South East Asia.

Rachel S.C. Koh, Business Development Director of Aura-Lite said “We are excited by the prospects in the Asian market for products for the sustainable home. We are pleased to have these excellent rainwater products from RainWaterHarvesting.co.uk to add to our existing eco-offering and we look forward to developing them in cooperation with our new British partners.”

In reciprocating, Marcus Bicknell, Partner, Technical and Commercial, in RainWater Harvesting Ltd stated “Our expansion into such a vibrant part of the world and with such an innovative partner is rewarding for us and confirms the recent increase in commercial and home-owner interest in the advantages of rainwater harvesting and state-of-the-art low-electricity-use water management systems. We have also been most impressed by the out-of-the-ordinary commitment by the Malaysian Prime Minister to investing in eco products for a greener future. We and the UK Rainwater Harvesting Association (UKRHA) will continue to influence the British Government and ministries to take a step further than the Code for Sustainable Homes (which encourages the building of eco-friendly features into new homes) and to provide substantive incentives to accelerate sustainability, including rainwater harvesting, in all new dwellings and bigger buildings. From our side we continue to play our role in reducing or eliminating the electrical use of rainwater harvesting systems and in innovating with new green products.”
