January 2009
BBC2's
"Its Not Easy Being Green"
programme is now on air with
RainWaterHarvesting.co.uk contributing as part of the
eco-build. It was great fun to watch and full of helpful hints.
They said..
"Rainwater Harvesting..this
was on our original wish list for home improvements as
it’s so easy to implement and has immediate and numerous
benefits in a home e.g. for toilet flushing, clothes
washing and for our vegetable plot and new shrubs. We
initially wanted to harvest ‘grey water’ (the waste
water from washing machines, baths etc) but it was a
natural step to extend this to actual rainwater
harvesting, as our roof area is so large and our garden
could accommodate a large tank (well, just about!), plus
we didn’t want to pollute our garden with traces of
detergent. We eventually opted for an all-singing,
all-dancing ‘Rain Director’ configuration, which
included a 2700-litre underground tank and a
computerized module which operated a water mains
override should the rainwater run out, and refilled a
header tank capable of 16 full flushes, thereby reducing
the pump usage.
And
yes, the installation was as much fun as it appeared on
the programme!
