Solar Rain Director® launches at Ecobuild

The WRAS-approved rainwater management system, The Rain Director®, has a new solar version being launched at Ecobuild. The Solar Rain Director® incorporates all the features of the original versions plus the great advantage of using almost no mains electricity. The Rain Director® is a gravity rather than direct supply system. Instead of the pump in the underground tank feeding appliances directly, it pumps to a smart header tank which gravity-feeds appliances. It differs from other gravity-feed systems because the pump only works when the header tank is almost empty rather than every time water is drawn. Models RD-01 and RD-02 already reduce pump power use considerably. The Solar Rain Director® will reduce this to virtually nothing.

A submersible 12 volt pump replaces the standard pump and a small solar panel and battery pack ensures rainwater can be pumped to the smart header tank without any use of mains electricity. The control panel is also powered by the battery and solar panel. Tests show that even on a cloudy day in the U.K., these state-of-the-art amorphous solar panels can deliver charge enough for six times a typical family's rainwater needs.

Besides being energy efficient, The Solar Rain Director® with its small, neat control panel and smart header tank, provides mains back-up, water supply during power cuts and
holiday modes to avoid discoloured water. The specially-developed mains backup charger uses no residual current from the mains while in standby mode, another energy-saving eco-feature.
