Direct Feed System – Case Study – Taberna Pines
Isle of Wight self-builder looking for a green solution to help mitigate local flooding.
Client: Homeowner
Type of System: 3000 Litre Direct Feed System
Location: Isle of Wight
Completed: 2023
Our client on the Isle of Wight was looking for a sustainable system for their self-build that helped them overcome planning stipulations and meet their desire to mitigate local flooding.
Following their visit to our stand at the National Self-Build and Renovation Centre (NSBRC) in Swindon, they contacted us to specify a rainwater harvesting system for their project.
Using our online tank calculator, we specified a 3000L tank with an integral pump, filter and a direct feed control unit.
The first task for our client was to work out the location of the tank as well as some chosen soakaway crates. The client wanted to include these to double their efforts in reducing surface water flooding.
Inside the house, the client also fitted an RainAcculevel sensor which provides data on the tank levels enabling the client to effectively monitor their tanks water levels.
When we asked the client to comment on their system they said
“In the year since the tank was installed, the system has not been needed to top up from mains – proof that the online tank size estimating tool got it just right. Our water bills have been very much reduced and they have the added benefit that rainwater is not contributing to local flooding”.
Key Achievements
- Reducing local flooding.
- Accurate tank sizing.
- Future proofing the home.
